Standard Coupons

With printable, mobile, and e-coupons, it seems like standard coupons and clipping is a lost art, but over 80% off all coupons are distributed through inserts. So, keep those scissors sharp!

Newspaper Inserts
80% of all coupons come from newspaper inserts. In addition, check inside your newspaper. I’ve found a few great coupons on one of the pages of the newspaper, instead of in an insert.

Home Mailers
Many stores and companies issue home mailers. While some are sent upon request, others are are sent at random. However, to be eligible, the store or company must know you exist, so sign up on their website and/or in-store, then cross your fingers and hope you get coupons soon.
For more information read about the stores and check out your favorite manufacturers to see if they offer coupons.

Frequently Asked Questions

- Do you have to buy the product to take a peelie or wine tag coupon?
- What is a Catalina or a Cash Register Receipt Ticket?
- How many newspapers should I buy?
Is subscribing to the newspaper really worth the cost?
You can pick up a subscription at many dollar-type stores for only $1 on Sunday. But, keep in mind the time it takes to go get the newspaper each week, plus the cost of gas. When you factor that into your cost, usually a newspaper subscription saves you money. Plus, you can get an exclusive discount subscription to the Indianapolis Star through In Good Cents!
Do you have to buy the product to take a peelie or wine tag?
Yes. Peelie’s are attached to products and say “save now” usually, meaning you should buy the product immediately to use the coupon. Wine tags however are a grey area, since in some state, like Indiana, you can not legally require the purchase of a alcohol to receive a discount. Therefore, in Indiana, you can legally take the wine tag off of the product without buying the wine.
What is a Catalina or a Cash Register Receipt Ticket?
A Catalina and Cash Register Receipt Ticket are both coupons that print at the cash register with your receipt. For more information watch VIDEO: Catalinas.
How many newspapers should I buy?
That really depends on the coupons in the newspaper that week and the products you buy. I usually only buy one, though I may pick up an extra one on a rare occasion. For more information read Getting Multiple Inserts.
