Mobile Coupons
Mobile coupons are the latest trend. They are coupons actually on your mobile phone and to get the discount you show the coupon on your phone to the cashier. Many restaurants and other companies are now providing them. Coupons listed here are the ones most frequently mentioned on In Good Cents, but that doesn’t mean they are the only mobile coupons available.

Do I have to have a Smart Phone or iPhone to use mobile coupons?
Not in all cases. Target and Meijer are currently the only coupon provider that requires a phone with internet access, while Yowza offers mobile coupons through many providers, including the iTouch. Mobile coupons come in all types of varieties from text messages to scannable coupons. See the various providers for more information on the coupons they offer.
Why wouldn’t the store accept my mobile coupon?
The mobile coupon providers work directly with each company to provide coupons. However, that doesn’t mean the employees in-store are in the loop. New cashiers and managers may look at you like you’re insane. Simply explain or place a call to headquarters, so they can correct the problem.
Who takes mobile grocery coupons?
Right now, the only stores that will take mobile grocery coupons are Target and Meijer.
Are mobile coupons only for groceries?
No. In fact, most mobile coupons are for services or things other than groceries. Companies like Yowza provide coupons from various companies from restaurants to clothing, and even services like automotive repair. Companies frequently featured include, but are not limited to -
- Babies ‘R Us
- Finish Line
- JCPenney
- Pier 1 Imports
- Saks Fifth Avenue
- Sears
- And More!
In addition, many companies offer mobile coupons through their website, like Victoria Secret or Moe’s Southwest Grill.

I think we’re actually talking about two different things. Since this is all so new, the terminology isn’t universal yet. In the frugal world, we break the digital coupons into two categories – e-coupons and mobile coupons.
You can access many sites from your phone, like Coupons.com. But, they don’t offer “mobile” coupons. By mobile, I mean the coupon is sent via text message or via internet link to your phone, then you must have your cell phone at the store and show it to the cashier. The Cellfire grocery coupons are loaded to your card. Technically, you could use them even if your mobile phone was left at home, because all you need is your shopper card.
