I’m a big nerd.  I LOVE history.  It was the one class in high school that I didn’t space out through.  Luckily, I got blessed with a little girl who loves history too and doesn’t moan when I share it her.

As a Hoosier, I’m most curious about our history.  The Indiana Historical Society, located in Downtown Indianapolis, is home of the Indiana Experience where you can step into 1968 to hear Robert F. Kennedy speak, time travel back to hear stories of The Civil War, emerge yourself in the 1940′s with Cole Porter, and help restore original documents.  Through photos, technology, sculptures, art, and artifacts, you can experience historical Indiana and see Indiana oh so long ago.  It’s AWESOME!

But, the most enjoyable part of the Indiana Historical Society is the events.  These are the special days (sometimes months) designed for families that children (and parents) love.

I like purses. Okay, not just like, I LOVE purses. All sorts of purses, but lately, my biggest purse problem has been finding a one that works for EVERY situation. I have a three year old, which means that he is a bit too big for the entire diaper bag scenario and not quite to the point where I get to stop lugging around a change of clothes and snacks everywhere we go.  Plus in the amazing world of couponing; finding a purse that I can take to the store and have my binders (yes, plural!) with me and not have a ton of bags to carry was a necessity too. And in all honesty she is only a bit bigger than my previous purse, so the size isn’t too much for me at all.  She is the PERFECT everything bag! As soon as my new Audrey bag arrived I quickly moved everything from my old purse, and to my surprise EVERYTHING from my old bag fit into the Signature Pocket Design that come in EVERY GiGi Hill bag. Leaving the entire space inside the purse for me to carry all those extras that seem to pop up throughout the day. These Signature Pockets are AMAZING!!!! I am not a photographer by any means, but these pockets are so amazing, I HAD to show you!

I now have all my typical purse items neatly organized into the pockets, but I also have enough room to put my binders in to go shopping, pack some clothes and snacks for the kids, and space for just about everything else that pops up while not having to worry something is going to get lost in the bottom. The best part is how completely smart they are, they are attractive, (tons of different fabrics to choose from) functional (pocket design) and completely cleanable fabric inside and out to just wipe up spills!!!

Now Audrey has a special place in my heart because of just how amazingly awesome she is, for me and my life. I am cheap (yes, I know frugal sounds better, but lets call it like it is), I hate spending money on anything and Audrey was a bit on the expensive side for a bag (for me, the tightwad). But after using her for a few weeks I have been converted and definitely realized that she is worth every penny! But for those of you that are frugal (cheap) like me, there are bags that range from $25 and up so there is one that will fit anyone’s budget.

The first time I walked into my friend’s home what I noticed wasn’t the fact that her house wasn’t perfect or that there were toys scattered everywhere.  It was her walls.  Instead of typical framed photos, artwork, and other decorations typically seen on walls, hers were covered (every inch) with huge photos of her family.

This went against everything I was raised to believe (which was that photos bigger than 8×10 are just too large).  There were professional family portraits, candid photos take at great moments, and even photos of their dog.  The were on every wall – above the dining room table, up the stairway, above the fireplace.  It was absolutley the most display I had ever seen.

One of the things I love most about the opportunity to do this Holiday Gift Guide each year is the opportunity to promote very creative women in Indiana and this is one!

Each year, my family and I pick out ornament to add to our Christmas tree. It’s our family tradition to show how our kids interest have grown throughout the years (and how some years they stayed the same!).  Our tree is a mixture of Hannah Montana guitars, Dora the Explorer, trains, Cinderella’s glass slipper, and  Bronco’s footballs.  Each one has a name and date to remind us who picked and when.

My additions are usually less about my favorite cartoon character or the Broncos (my husband’s is ALWAYS a Bronco’s ornament), and more about some memory from the year.  I’ve picked babies in rockers the years each of my kids were born, an angel for my grandma, a tiny family photo,  and other sentimental ornaments the kids don’t get, but bring happy tears to my eyes as memories rush back.

I’m a kid at heart and a super nerdy one at that!  I LOVE video games.  It’s a chance to be someone else and do something you’d never have the chance to do.  Can you say that you’ve saved the entire world from Voldemort (the LEGO version)?  I can!

And while I know it’s a controversial subject, I honestly believe kids can learn a lot more from video games than just the totally annoying lyrics to That’s Not My Name by The Ting Tings. My 4-year-old became a color genius at the age of 3 by giving Barbie make overs. You can ask her any color combination – two colors, three colors, even four colors, and she’ll tell you the result you’ll get when they are mixed.  This skill she mastered mixing hair colors for Barbie’s make over, she uses to help me decorate cupcakes, paint pictures, color, and just to confuse her color blind father.

So, when I had an opportunity to review and giveaway the new Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure Game, I jumped!  While watching the video about the video game, my two-year old said in his most matter-of-fact tone, “That’s scary.”, but even my nine-year old nephew put on his most professional face to say, “I’d like to come over and help you review that, if you don’t mind.”  He was very serious, but I feel he may have had ulterior motives.

I was right.  While our review started all professional, it soon turned into a good-natured battle for Skylander.  And, while to be honest, I am just not cool enough to even know what the Skylander Action Figures are (which got me a heavy sigh and an exaggerated eye roll from that nephew of mine), I had a blast with him!

And while my four-year-old wouldn’t play with us unless she could be a pretty girl (look above, do any of those look even remotely close to a pretty girl to you?!) and my two-year-old is sticking hard to his, “It’s scary story” (which isn’t saying much since he’s also scared of Big Jet in Little Einsteins), my seven-year-old loved it too!

You pick your Skylander (it’s a tiny doll, though my nephew will insist it’s an “action figure”), then place your Skylander on the Portal of Power (it’s a toy rock with a blue center) and it comes to life in the game for you to battle an evil tyrant to save Skyland. Or, put two dolls (or action figures if you want to pretend that makes dolls more manly) on the Portal of Power to Battle each other.  This would be the part where my nephew handed my bottom to me!

I’m guessing (though again, not cool enough to know) that this game is on very many boy’s wish list, especially since my nephew screamed that he’s been DYING to play it!  And, from a parents stand point, it’s pretty cool to watch dolls (um… action figures) come to life before your very eyes.

I never understood why anyone worried about the thread count of their sheets.  Honestly, it seemed like a silly thing to waste money on, since sheets are sheets. As my daughter tells me practically daily, “You can NEVER have too many clothes!” I beg to differ because SHE wasn’t the one packing and unpacking them with our recent move, and she isn’t the one washing them either. But when it comes to Christian apparel, I do tend to agree with that statement. You CAN not have too many clothes that share your faith without  saying a word.

Even my husband who isn’t exactly the type to wear Christian clothing because it doesn’t fit his ‘style’, likes the items that Kerusso has to offer. And I have to say out of everyone in the house he is the pickiest when it comes to clothing so for him that is a HUGE compliment.

The topic of print quality comes up in our house quite often. You see, my husband is a supervisor at one of the worlds largest screenprinting companies. So although YOU may not notice the little errors that may be on the very shirt you are wearing now, my husband could find it in about 2 seconds flat. But that’s his job, so that’s what he does, ALL THE TIME!!!! If you know ANYONE who is passionate about their jobs, then you also know at times, it can be annoying… in a good way… but annoying. For example, a simple quick Wal-Mart  trip can turn into an hour long dissection of the print quality on the clothing racks.

So needless to say, the quality of the print on our Kerusso t-shirts were scrutinized by my husband the very second we received them. And THEY PASSED his inspection!!!! Not many things do, so to the untrained eye they look GREAT!! But even the trained eye approved of them too, so I give Kerrusso 5 stars for passing my husbands intense examination!

The style Kerusso uses to design their products looks like anything you could find at your local Wal-Mart or Macy’s. The selection they have is pretty similar too; hats, hoodies, t-shirts, guitar straps,  jewelry, accessories and yes EVEN Barbie clothes!!! I honestly have not seen any other Christian apparel that comes close to matching today’s style with a Christ centered message, like Kerusso does.

So many times we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas Season that we often forget the purpose of it. It’s like we are having a birthday party and not inviting the birthday boy to be a part of the party. Being a mom, about the ONLY uninterrupted ‘me’ time I get each day is when I am in the shower. My kids are now old enough to understand that when I am in the shower (if there isn’t fire or blood)  they leave me alone. Of course, in their minds that rule only applies when the actual shower is running. So that is where the Toilet Tree Fogless Mirror is a small blessing in my busy life. With my Deluxe LED Fogless Mirror, I can spend a bit more time in the shower to take care of things, plus I get a few more minutes to avoid the “MOM!!! He took my Barbie!” scenarios! :-)

The Deluxe LED Fogless Mirror is so super easy to use too. It was a cinch to hang up in the shower and then you quickly fill the small container in the back with hot water, jump in the shower and its all peace and quiet for a few minutes! When your done in the shower, you pop it off, dump the water out and set it back on the base to wait for the next go round. There is even a nifty little shelf perfect for a razor, tweezers, or a bottle of face wash and tucked discreetly under the shelf is a handy built in squeegee to clean the water drops off the mirror.

I can’t help but think back to my college days and what an awesome thing this would have been. I shared one bathroom and one VERY tiny sink with 3 other girls. So we had to do as much as we could in the shower quickly. With this mirror I have been able to pluck my eyebrows, (the lights make it super easy and the hot water opens  your pores, so it’s perfect), wash my face, and I have even dyed my own hair, without having to worry about hair dye dripping on my bathroom floor or counter. If I would have had this in the shower in college, I am sure it would have saved so much time.

I am sure that my kids would love this mirror just for the fun value of being able to see themselves in the tub while making silly beards with the bubbles or crazy hair shapes with the shampoo, but since shower time is about the only ‘me’ time I get, it went in MY shower, NOT the kids bathtub, so they don’t get to try it. Although my 7 year old did tell me she was ‘super jealous’ so I guess that means it’s a cool thing to have.

In all honesty, at first the price seemed at bit much for me at $49.95, but after I got my mirror and realized the time (and sanity) it has bought me, it’s really priceless! But if you are a little skeptical on this one, they do have less expensive version available priced at $29.95. But I definitely recommend the Deluxe LED Version, especially if your shower is set off in a darker corner of the bathroom like mine is, the light is one of the BEST features!

I am not the only one who thinks this mirror is an awesome luxury to have, it was a HOT gift on Amazon last year  and I am sure with the Deluxe version out now it will be on the top of the list again this year!

I love those photos of babies with beautiful, oversized hair bows on their head and always envy the women who have enough style to add flowers and bows into their hair.  I never know how to accessorize.  But, as I was trying out the Laynie and Belle ::Hair Things::,  I learned an important lesson – there’s no need to overthink it!

This giveaway is for the most AMAZING little creatures. These aren’t your everyday amazingly crafted cloth dolls either, they are so much more. The Elf Magic Elves are sent from Santa himself to celebrate all the love and fun of the entire Christmas season with your family. The elves typically arrive sometime around Thanksgiving and they have to return with Santa on Christmas Eve to help with deliveries.

We just got our Elf Magic Elf yesterday, and it is extraordinary how this one little elf has brought the holiday spirit into our home. My kids absolutely LOVE her! This is Elf Sharon (they come with a name too!) my 7 year old insisted that she had to bring her coupon shopping with us so she could see her new world for the month. She even got to sit in the cart where my binders usually sit…now that is an honor!!! :) We put her to work holding my coupons too!

Just like  Santa said to do in his instruction letter, right at bedtime,  Spiderman (also known as my 3 year old…some battles just aren’t worth it) sprinkled the elf with the Magic North Pole Snowflakes. (The snowflakes come with the elf, and they are paper type material- NOT GLITTER- so easy clean up!) Any my daughter tucked her in.

The magic snowflakes bring the elf to life when everyone is sleeping so they can explore, write letters and create mischief.   Some of my favorite Elfcapades, the name for the elves adventures, are coloring the kids noses red while they are sleeping because the elf misses Rudolph and toilet papering the kids bedroom to make them share in a winter wonderland.  BUT you have to love the fact that the instruction letter from Santa that comes with them, also tells the kids that although Mrs. Claus tried to teach the elves to clean up after themselves, they sometimes get so caught up in the Christmas spirit that they get carried away and the SANTA tells the kids that THEY have to clean up after their elf!

On her first night here, our Elf  Sharon decided to simply open EVERY door, drawer and cabinet in the house to better explore her surroundings, then she hid above the kitchen cabinets, the kids looked for her for over an hour this morning before squealing with joy when they saw the tip of her hat sticking out over the shelf, so nothing too mischievous…YET… ;-) But our elf also loves reading the Bible and has picked out a verse for our family to learn to live each week.

There are a lot of accessories that will make both your visiting elf (and child) happy, but I definitely recommend the Elf Memory Book.  It’s a guided scrapbook for the visit. There is a page for prayers and questions for God, a page to record funny Elfcapades, Christmas memories and pages for the kids to write letters back and forth with their elf.

Sometimes, I think I’ll go into shock looking at the prices of household cleaners in the grocery store.  With three kids and three dogs, keeping my house clean is an endless battle.  I know there is always the option to make your own, but no matter what I try, the never seem to work as well.

JAWS (Just Add Water System) is a new cleaning system that became available at Marsh Supermarkets today.  One JAWS starter kit with one additional refills is priced $4.29 and one two-pack of refill cartridges are only $3.29. That is about the same cost as typically cleaners, but you’re getting twice as much for your money!

Oral health has been an uphill battle for me, which I believe peaked in junior high when I had to get braces.  Many of us had to get braces, but I’m sure you didn’t make the mistake I did.  Once my braces were on, my dentist asked, “So, what color of rubberbands to you want?”.  New to the world of braces I didn’t realize there were choices and asked about my options.  The dentist pulled out this chart with about 100 different colored rubberbands – blue, pink, hot pink, white, yellow… you name it.  I looked them over when she mentioned, “And we just got in glow-in-the-dark rubberbands. I’m sure I could find them, if you’d like those.”

If I had a time machine, I would go back and force myself to pick clear.  Or even hot pink.

But, I didn’t.  I thought glow-in-the-dark sounded awesome!

So, she went to the back and found the box, then put a little glow-in-the-dark rubberband on each bracket.

What she failed to mention was that when they weren’t glowing, they were green.  I didn’t realize until my helpful Grandma told me I had something in my teeth.  But, there was nothing I could do.  I had to live with them until it was time to go back for an adjustment.

My Grandma wasn’t the only one to tell me I had something in my teeth.  Pretty much everyone I met felt the need to tell me something was in my teeth.  I barely wanted to open my mouth, let alone smile!

But, it got worse.  One day, I was sitting in History.  The teacher decided to show The Blue & The Gray.  The lights went out and one by one, heads turned in my direction.  My mouth was glowing.  I had a bright green glowing mouth of teeth.  Of course, I couldn’t see it myself, but my best friend made sure to describe it in detail between hysterical bursts of giggles.

As if junior high isn’t hard enough.  I had glowing green teeth for an entire month!

And it was my own fault.

The next month, I choose clear rubberbands.

When I think of Hanes, the first thing that pops into my mind is comfortable and cute underwear.  I grew up with Hanes’ underwear.  I trust the brand.  In fact, when it was my kids turn, their first pair of underwear were Hanes.

For a while, I used surveys for you to enter giveaways and got wonderful feedback about how easy and quick it was to enter.  However, on my end, attempting to wade through responses to find a winner took a bit of time, especially if there were a lot of entries.

October is here, which means it’s time to scour the fields with your family for the perfect pumpkin to carve into the spooky Jack ‘O Lantern that will light your porch on Halloween.  Each year, my family and I head out to the farm to take a hayride out to the pumpkin patches where we pick our pumpkins to carve!

For us, the entire thing is an experience and we enjoy every minute.  From lugging huge pumpkins back to our car, to enjoying the farm animals.   Then later, we spread out on the kitchen floor prepared to get messy and carve away.  And finally, the best part… baked pumpkin seeds!

I always struggled with giving my kids chores.  Yes, they are responsible for cleaning their playroom and their own rooms, but it always seems to be a huge fight just to get them to finish.

I always struggle with decorating my home, but love photos of my family and kids on display around my home.  I have the usual 8x 10 and 5×7 photos on walls and in picture frames throughout the house.

It’s consignment time!  I love browsing through piles of clothes, because the feeling of finding that one gem in a pile that you know will light up your child’s eyes, is wonderful.  I know, it’s silly, but my kids are always so thrilled to dig through my laundry basket of clothes and tidbits when I get home.  Plus, knowing I only spent $3 on a fancy dress means I don’t freak out when I come home to find my 4 year old playing in it in the sandbox.

Swiffer has to be one of my favorite brands!  In a moment of insanity, I turned my backyard into a beach.  Now with three kids and three dogs, my floors are a constant battle.

Have your kids headed back to school yet?  My oldest is in first grade this year.  It’s the first time she’s been gone all day, every day (almost).  I’m missing her like crazy, but I’m sure it can’t compare to all of you who sent your oldest off to college this year!
