Everyone should take the time to be a tourist in their own town. Exploring all the fun things your town has to offer can give you a new perspective and even introduce you to places you never knew about.

The Canal & White River State Park

As one of Indiana’s Historic Districts, The Canal & White River State Park is a beautiful place to just walk and explore. The Canal was built back in the 1800′s, but has been refurbished stretching from White River State Park to 11th Street downtown. The walk is beautiful  but you can also enjoy pedal boats, ride bikes, and more.

White River State Park also includes trails, museums, and The Indianapolis Zoo.

Bike-In Movies

Indianapolis Parks & Recreation are offering a new twist on movies in the park. Instead of a drive-in, they are offering bike-in movies. Bike to Garfield Park and enjoy a FREE classic family-movie like The Goonies or A Christmas Story. Bring lawn chairs and food to picnic or visit the local food vendors.

Bike-In Movies are happening May – September.

Easley Winery

Love wine? Each Saturday through September 28, 2013, Easley Winery offers Grooving in the Garden with live music. Bring your own food, lawn chairs, and have a picnic, plus enjoy a FREE winery tour. Plus, take part in a wine tasting for only $5.

Also check out Mass Ave. Free Tasting Tuesdays!

Eagle Creek Park

GoApe! 7-14-12 (5 of 19)

Admission to Eagle Creek Park is $5 per car or $3 per biker or hiker, but inside you’ll find tons of fun to fill your day, like the Earth Discovery Center, nature trails, animal exhibits, boat or canoe rental, archery and pistol range, and more. Bring a picnic lunch.

If you want to GoApe! make sure you make an appointment. It’s $55 per adult 18 years or older or $35 for children ages 10-17.

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Admission to the Indianapolis Museum of Art is always FREE, including their always fun Art in the Park and Make & Take workshops where you and your family can create your own masterpiece.

While you’re there, make sure to tour the historic Lilly House and take a nature walk or have a picnic in The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park that covers 100-acres.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Indiana Staycation 2013 (1 of 1)-2

The Children’s Museum is always one of our favorite places to hang out during the summer on rainy days. It’s a place where children of all ages (even adults who like to play like children) explore science, health, history, and so much  more with hands-on activities.

Grab a The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis coupon for the month of May to save on a membership or admission. To save even more, visit on one of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Family FREE Nights the first Thursday of every month, but keep in mind it can get very crowded.
