Although this time of year we all want to be doing a lot of this….
Most of us are probably doing less relaxing and more stressing about getting our kids ready to go back to school. Stores have huge signs screaming you must “BUY THIS NOW!” Because you wouldn’t want to miss out on all the great deals. A little secret… I am not convinced the deals are all that great this time of year.
As a mother of two children who attend school year round I have found a few tips to help me save money not only this time of year but YEAR round.
For me it just doesn’t make sense to go to the store and buy jeans and long sleeved shirts for my children. We will be starting school next week after-all and this is the HOTTEST time of the year. So why would I buy that kind of clothing for school in July?
This year I was particularly careful to purchase only clothes and things I knew my children need. I spread my school shopping out all thru the year watching for great sales and spending conservatively. This week we bought essentials. (socks and underwear) In the spring I bought shorts and t-shirts that I knew could be worn thru the spring and all during the summer. In the fall we are off track during September, this is when we buy winter clothes. Another tip we always buy winter coats that will last for 2 years. My advice: Don’t stress and absolutely do not impulse buy. Make a list, be realistic and have a plan. You will save money and you will reduce your stress level. Here’s to a successful Back to School shopping experience.
Beth’s Note: This is my first year to send a child off to school. Ady starts Kindergarten very soon! With out experience in this area, I do have to agree. Plan! If you plan ahead, make a list, and stick to it, you’re less likely to impulse shop and more likely to save.

Sad but a new school year is waiting ahead. With regards to shopping for school items, I prefer to buy pens, pencils and other stuff in bulk since kids are most likely to lose it anyway. At least we still have some spares. And coupons help lessen the cost.
