As a frugal blogger, I get questions about everything from how to know when a sale is really a sale to store brands. And, honestly, I’m really shocked at how many people avoid store brands and their reasons. Many store brands are made by the same companies that make the name brand products we love and are priced so much better. Whenever I don’t have a coupon or a product isn’t on sale, but I really need it, I always consider the store brand product. And usually (not always, I’ll admit), it gets the job done just as well.
You may have not realized this yet, but Toys ‘R Us and Babies ‘R Us just released a Babies ‘R Us store brand infant care line and I’m reading some pretty good reviews on their site. You can snag diapers, formula, laundry detergent, baby wipes, and even purified water for 50% less than most comparable name brands. It came out at the end of 2009! I didn’t realize, but I need to check it out, since I have one in diapers and one who still uses training pants at night.
Since my first two were solely breastfed and my third one suffers from so many food allergies and reflux issues, I have to admit I haven’t tried store brand baby formula. However, I never hesitate to grab some store brand diapers, water, or, especially, baby wipes. As many wipes as we go through, since my daughters think they are meant for house cleaning and paper doll making in the car, we have to be frugal about them!
Have you tried Babies ‘R Us new line? Tell us what you thought!
And, what makes you consider store brands? When do you pass them by?
