Up & Down & Up & Down Again

by Beth on November 17, 2009

I know this blog has been up and down, then up and down again. It’s because my life has been up and down, then up and down again.
See this cute little man here (big sister is holding his hand)? He’s my 3 month old son (almost 4 months) and I do think he’s the cutest thing ever, but I’m bias. Unfortunately, he didn’t come with instructions and while I’m a 3rd time mom, he’s been my biggest challenge.
He was born with some digestive issues which cause him to scream in pain sometimes for days. Just when I think things are going really well, we seem to start all over again.
The doctors and I have been going through trial and error to figure out exactly what’s bothering his little tummy and so far, they’ve discovered high-grade reflux. On top of that, we’re now guessing he has a pretty severe allergy to cow’s milk protein, as well as soy. Stack that with the worry of delayed gastric emptying and you have a little boy who is having some pretty bad days with lots of tummy troubles. We’re making some changes now and are starting to see some pretty big smiles, so we’re hoping we’re finally on the right track and he’ll be a cheery newborn soon!
The point is, I wanted you to know that each time I suddenly disappear, it’s not because I have forgotten all of my wonderful readers. It’s because I’m taking some time to cuddle my son who needs his mommy and usually only I can console him, though my husband and oldest daughter do try very hard to help.
So many of you who know me have sent me prayers and I thank you so much for that, plus thank you all for being so understanding! It’s always hard so watch your newborn suffer, especially, when everything you do just doesn’t seem to comfort him.

Poor baby:( I'm glad you are on your way to getting his issue figured out. My Almost 3 month old is very gassy/ colicky some nights and the only think she wants is to be walked with around the house facing outward so she can look around.

My blog has been up and down for the past year, so I completely get that blogging needs to take a backseat to family and life at times.

Do what you need to do for your son, yourself & your family. Don't worry about us adults! Your family is your priority & when you have a newborn, nothing else matters! Your readers will be here when you are. My heart & prayers go out to you & the little guy. Its so frustrating when you don't know what to do & they are suffering (been there). I pray that you will find the answers soon & everyone will be on the right track!

If it helps any – I haven't noticed any problems with your blogging and am still getting lots of great advice. No complaints here.

My 3rd child (also a boy) was pretty much exactly the same way. Everybody would tell me the 3rd was supposed to be the easiest, but for me it was close to a nightmare. Screaming, horrible spitting up, and a desire to nurse all the time (maybe to soothe the pain??). My husband would tell me we would get through it, but it seemed like an eternity. Slowly but surely, one day at a time, we did get through it. He is now 19 months old and everybody tells me how happy he is. We often look at him and say to each other, "Did you ever think we would get to this point?" He is still my most "expressive" child, but much more pleasant to be around.

Sometimes it just helps to know you are not the only one. One day at a time and someday this will be a memory.

Thanks for all your work, even when you have a high maintainance baby.

God Bless your little one. How adorable he is! M best friend's little boy had the same type of problems and found out he was lactose intolerant(?). She had a really rough time with him. But he is now 12 years old and even getting a little chubby! So hang in there. Love your site….chrisM nativechristy17@hotmail.com
