First of all, thank you all so much for baring with me while I attempt to catch up on all the wonderful deals I missed! However, the reason for the delay is, in my opinion, too cute to blame. Weighing in at 7 lbs 1 oz, Daelan Cory joined our family on Sunday, July 26th at 8:06 PM. He was 20 inches long and both of us are doing wonderfully.

With babies on the brain, I thought I’d share a unique baby food recipe that my children loved. Of course, I usually would make it around Halloween when we had pumpkins coming out of our ears!

Making your own baby food is not only cheaper, but it also exposes your child to a wide variety of foods not found in the grocery store. In fact, after a while, both of my girls enjoyed whatever we were having for dinner – just pureed. It not only make me cook and choose healthier foods, but it also made me happy to know my daughter wasn’t getter bored with Chicken & Rice Dinner every night!

First to get started, you will need a blender or something to puree foods for your baby. I have a Magic Bullet, which I love, but I also invested in an in expensive manual baby food grinder for on-the-go meals. This allowed my children enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at Great-Grandma’s to the fullest with the rest of us!

PUMPKIN PUREE
1 Sugar Pumpkin
Water
Cinnamon
Nutmeg (optional, sprinkle into cooking water when you puree / mash)
Either bake or peel, cube, and steam the pumpkin. To bake, first cut the pumpkin in half and remove the seeds. Place halves face down in a baking pan with 2 inches of water and bake approximately 40 minutes – 1 hour at 375. You can tell it’s done, because the skin will appear wrinkled and should feel soft when pressed. Scrape out the meat, then mash. Puree with a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking water.

APPLE, PUMPKIN, & OATMEAL PUREE
1/2 Cup Applesauce
1/2 Cup Pumpkin Puree
1/2 Cup Oatmeal (Cooked
Dash of Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and/or Ginger
Mix all of the ingredients together and blend or puree. Serve warm or cold.
FREEZER TIP
Remember you, can freeze baby food in ice cube trays. Pull out a few cubes and thaw for individual servings as needed!
