Tuesday's Tip 11: Giving Back

Sometimes, in order to get a good deal or avoid having my ECB expire, I have to grab an item I don’t necessarily want or need. Sometimes buying something you don’t want can actually cut your final bill even lower, instead of adding to it, like when you have a $/$$ coupon. And then there are the times when something I don’t need or want is absolutely free. I’ll tell you a secret – I usually get it anyway. Why do I stock up on all these things I’ll never use? It’s not because I can’t pass up a great deals.   It’s because there are people who do need them desperately.

Shopping savvy and couponing has changed the way my family lives. We eat healthier now and have family dinners together each night. I get to bond with my daughters while they help me cut coupons, look through ads, and cook. Now, we get to make a difference in someone else s life by giving back.

The church I call home, Grace Community Church (in Noblesville, Indiana) collects donations for my community and so I throw the extra items in a bag and take them to church to drop in their donate bin. There are many places to donate all over the world, so find one near you and start making a difference too with the extra items you may have accumulated.

How do you give back? Where do you donate? Share!

I fill Yellow Bags (and bags for the Hamilton County Food Pantry) at Grace with my CVS and couponing finds as well! With a household of just two people, we have no need to buy toothpaste, body wash, and shampoo every week – but if they’re free or close to it, I pick up the items every week anyway. When I have a bag full, I deliver it! Glad to know others do the same! (I recently came across http://www.feedindy.com, another Grace attender who coupons for food pantries!)

You go to Grace? I go to Northview. We do the same thing w/ a lot of our extras that we don’t use. Northview has a food pantry donation for inner city Indy.
